Meet Taryn! Inaugural Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Traineeship Program Intern
Earlier this year the AGPAL Group of Companies was excited to welcome our inaugural intern, Taryn Anno as part of our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Traineeship Program in consultation with AFL SportsReady.
In celebration of National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day (4 August), Taryn has taken the time to share information about herself and the importance of this day for her:
“Proud woman from Kalkadoon in Mount Isa and Waiben from Thursday Island, both from my fathers’ side.
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day to me is a special day to embrace and show my culture that has been handed down to me from my family, having the time to grow my knowledge and strengthen my culture.
Today (National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day) is a time to express my culture, teaching others of traditions that has been taught to me. The significance of ceremonial face markings, exchanging of gifts/message sticks and expressing my story through paint.
One reason I wanted to join the AGPAL Group of Companies through the traineeship was to grow my knowledge on how organisations are run. I’ve found it interesting and important to know how much work, planning and effort is put into all projects. It’s also great to meet new people and learn from others, their knowledge and opinions I value greatly.”
Taryn is currently working within the Engagement & Partnerships Team (pictured L to R: Lizzie, Taryn, Dani and Jason) and is supporting in the development of internal and client facing communications and resources. We are lucky to have her with us for a two-year period and are in awe of her professionalism, drive and motivation for personal growth and development. We look forward to supporting Taryn as she continues on her Traineeship journey and thank her for taking time out of her school day to add value to the relationships, learnings and work being done across our organisation.
